Serbian Army Chief Visits Depots, Sees Need for Disposing of Surplus Weaponry

Miletic: It Is Necessary To Dispose of Surplus Weaponry

Belgrade, 22 September 2010 (Tanjug)
Lieutenant General Miloje Miletic, chief of the General Staff of the Army of Serbia, drew attention today to the necessity of finding a way of disposing of surplus weaponry.
Miletic was visiting the depots of the Central Logistic Base in Smederevo and Negotin, where he inspected the storage and safety of the materiel, the Army of Serbia reported.
"For some time now, we have been encountering a problem with the storage of surplus materiel, both weaponry and combat equipment," Miletic said.
He said that for part of this materiel, there are adequate storage and maintenance conditions, "but for the other part, the conditions really are not satisfactory."
"Over the coming period, it is very important for the sake of both safety and economy to find a way to dispose of this surplus and funnel the money where it would do more good," he said.
Miletic stressed that the Central Logistic Base has made a great effort to improve the conditions for the storage and maintenance of this weaponry, the report, posted on the website of the Army of Serbia, says.
The chief of the General Staff of the Army of Serbia paid tribute to the commanding officer of the base, Colonel Goran Zekovic, and all its members for the efforts that they have been making in this area.
