Destruction of 28,285 weapons on Tuesday

The Serbian Ministry of Interior is going to destroy 28,285 confiscated weapons tomorrow, the Southeastern and Eastern Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons announced.

The weapons destruction, to be held at the Recycling Centre in Zeleznik, is financed by the European Union, as stated by the today's communication. According to the announcement, the Minister of Interior, Ivica Dacic, Head of EU Delegation in Belgrade, Vincent Deger, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia, William Infante, will be present at the destruction event.
For the occasion, Deger said that the destruction of 28,285 weapons was of utmost importance, as it was evidence that the Republic of Serbia was ready to combat crime, both in the country and region wise.
Weapons destruction is financed by EU by virtue of its decision of 11th March 2010 supporting the activities of the Southeastern and Eastern Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
These activities are conducted in the framework of arms control in Western Balkans, as defined by the EU Strategy to Combat Illicit Accumulation and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons and Their Ammunition.
